Yahoo Launches Two Original Comedy Series, Partners With Live Nation

Yahoo unveiled details of two TV-style and Netflix-like original Web series, a partnership with Live Nation, the Yahoo Travel digital magazine, and new advertising features.

Yahoo original series:  Yahoo will be showcasing two original comedies as part of a lineup of long-form shows. Each series will launch on Yahoo Screen next year and deliver 30-minute episodes. The content will also be available on Apple TV and Roku. Other Space is “a galactic adventure set in the early 22nd century, when the human race has mapped most of the known universe, failed to find alien life, and frankly gotten a little tired of the whole thing. ” The show comes from three time Emmy nominee Paul Feig (Freaks and Geeks, Bridesmaids, The Office).  From executive producer Mike Tollin (One Tree Hill,  Smallville, and Varsity Blues) and two-time Emmy nominated director Bryan Gordon (Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, Party Down),  Sin City Saints is a comedy set in the front office of a fictional pro basketball expansion team. The show will revolve around Jake Tullus, a Silicon Valley tycoon whose lifelong dream was to buy a pro basketball team.

Katie Couric will also have two weekly shows on Yahoo,  launching this summer. First, a series called World 3.0, will feature people who are “hacking” life . The second is a series called Now I Get It,  and will provide an explanation of the news of the day in a shareable video.

Yahoo Partners with Live Nation: Beginning this summer, Yahoo and Live Nation will begin producing a collection of U.S. concert live streams on the web: one live concert, every day, 365 days a year, as part of a new channel on Yahoo Screen.  The company has inked a sponsorship with Kellogg’s for the shows.

Introducing Yahoo Travel: Yahoo has launched Yahoo Travel — a digital travel magazine,  covering “everything from solo trips and exotic adventures, to affordable family vacations and luxury escapes”.

New Advertising Formats: Yahoo unveiled new video and rich media advertising for the Yahoo login page and digital magazines. These new ad opportunities will be available in the coming weeks., and include splash ads, and full-page video Login ads.
