Red Hat and General Motors have inked a collaboration around the Red Hat In-Vehicle Operating System.

The operating system provides a certified Linux operating system foundation intended for the evolution of GM’s Ultifi software platform, and is expected to accelerate the development of GM’s software-defined vehicle programs following Ultifi’s initial launch, say the companies.

The integrated software is expected to support in-vehicle safety- and non-safety-related applications, including infotainment, advanced driver assistance systems, body control and connectivity, according to the companies.

The phased rollout of Ultifi is expected to launch in 2023.
