Nokia says it is working on smartphones that cost less than $100. The company released its Nokia Asha platform, and launched the Nokia Asha 501, the first smartphone built for the new platform.
The Nokia Asha 501 is expected to start shipping in June 2013, through approximately 60 operators and distributors in more than 90 countries worldwide. It is the world’s first touchscreen phone that is sub-$100.
Nokia expects to sell 100 million of the new generation Asha smartphones over the coming years, beginning with the Nokia Asha 501.
