Larry Conrad has been named as Berkeley’s next Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (AVC-IT & CIO). He will be replacing Lyle Nevels, the interim AVC-IT & CIO for the last eight months. Mr. Lyle will be staying on with the central IT organization in a redefined Deputy CIO role as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Deputy Chief Information Officer, reporting to Mr. Conrad.
Mr. Conrad brings 40 years of experience in the field of information technology and has a varied background in both university and corporate settings. He comes to Berkeley from the University of North Carolina (UNC), Chapel Hill, where he has served as their Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer for the last five years. Prior to UNC, he was the first Chief Information Officer at Florida State University (FSU) and served in that role for 10 years.
Prior to FSU, he served as an IT Director at Arizona State University for 10 years. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Iowa State University and a Masters in Computer Science from Arizona State University.
Mr. Conrad will join the campus on February 18, 2013, with Mr. Lyle remaining in the interim role until then.
