Ikea is working with Kodiak Robotics, a self-driving trucking company, for autonomous freight deliveries in Texas as a pilot initiative.
The collaboration started in August and involves a Kodiak autonomous heavy-duty truck transporting Ikea products between the company’s distribution center in Baytown and their store in Frisco, seven days a week.
The autonomous car does come with a driver though. A professional safety truck driver sits behind the wheel, and picks up a loaded trailer at the distribution center each morning and oversees the autonomous delivery, says Kodiak.
Now if only Ikea could work on furniture that autonomously self-assembled!
