Honda Motor Company is leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) to transition its vehicles into software-defined vehicles (SDVs). The Japanese automaker will use its Digital Proving Ground (DPG) platform, a vehicle development environment built on AWS, to help build SDVs.
Enhancing vehicle capabilities with IoT
AWS IoT services support Honda in improving vehicle safety and performance. By collecting and processing vehicle data in real-time, Honda can monitor EV battery performance, track vehicle health, and schedule maintenance. Additionally, the company is using AWS’s Amazon Kinesis Video Streams to build applications that process car camera footage for detecting unusual movements and alerting drivers to potential risks.
Generative AI for personalized charging solutions
Honda is incorporating AWS generative AI tools to improve EV driver experiences. A new solution under development will recommend optimal charging stations based on location, battery status, fees, and driver preferences. This feature, powered by Amazon Bedrock and AWS IoT Core, will also allow drivers to customize charging parameters such as time and payments.
Workforce training for cloud-Based mobility
In 2024, Honda launched the Expert Builder Initiative with AWS to train employees in cloud technologies, including generative AI and IoT. The program is designed to support Honda’s transition to SDVs by equipping engineers with the necessary skills to integrate cloud-based solutions into vehicles.
