Redwood City, CA-based Area 1 Security, a preemptive email security company, has raised $25 million. The investment was led by new investors ForgePoint Capital. Existing investors in the company Kleiner Perkins, Icon Ventures and Top Tier Capital also participated in the round.

Alberto Yepez, co-founder and managing director of ForgePoint Capital will join Area 1’s board. Find the ForgePoint blog post here.

In another development, Area 1 has appointed Patrick Sweeney as chief executive. Mr. Sweeney most recently served as CEO of Talari Networks. He previously held senior executive roles at Dell and SonicWall, according to a statement from Area 1.
