Reis Peixoto Wins 2012 Fedora Scholarship

[Techtaffy Newsdesk]

Red Hat has named Itamar Reis Peixoto as the recipient of the 2012 Fedora Scholarship. Mr. Peixoto was chosen for his work in various areas of the Fedora Project, including packaging, participating as a Fedora Ambassador, and helping the free-media team promote broader availability of Fedora.

Mr. Peixoto has been using Linux since 1999 and has used Fedora since version 1. His first contributed package to Fedora was the “ifstat” package in 2008. His future goals include teaching computer skills, specifically Linux, to children.

Itamar Reis Peixoto: My plan is to teach Linux [to] kids. If you show the way for children, they will keep walking, and for me, Linux is the correct way to walk.
Now in its fifth year, the Fedora Scholarship recognizes college and university-bound students across the globe for their contributions to free software and the Fedora Project. The 2013 application window will open in fall 2012.
